The Islamic Research and Information Center (IRIC) is proud to announce holding this program on the happy and blessed occasion of the birth anniversary of the Promised Savior, Imam Mahdi (May Allah hasten his return). At these disturbing times of the global pandemic of Covid-19, it is very important to reflect on the concept of “The Global Hope”, which is frequently mentioned in all Abrahamic religions. Many verses of the Holy Quran and narrations from the infallible Imams express the glad tidings of such a time of peace and tranquility in the world.

Festival Categories

  • Documentary Films (between 3 to 8 minutes)
  • Video Clips (between 1 to 4 minutes)
    Including animations, motion graphics, videopoetries, Nasheed, group songs, etc.
  • Scholarly Talks (between 2 to 5 minutes)
    Based on the verses from the holy Quran and other authentic sources, these talks may include a friendly, but scholarly, expression of your feelings and research on the proposed topics.

Proposed Topics

  • How to Make a Spiritual Connection with Imam Mahdi (a.s.) in Modern Times
  • Spirituality at Times of Crisis, Covid-19 Pandemic: The Role of Supplication, Invocation, Adherence to Imam Mahdi (a.s.)
  • Personal and Social Responsibility of Shias to Imam Mahdi (a.s.)
  • Introducing Status and Position of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) in Shia Belief to Others
  • The Role of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) in salvation of Human Society
  • Clear Reference to “Mahdi” in the Hadiths (Narrations) and Shia Culture against those who falsely Claim to be Mahdi
  • Deviated Establishments and Abusing the Messianic Belief


Although your efforts on the important event of the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi will be, Inshaallah, rewarded by His Holiness Imam of the Time (a.s.), IRIC, as a token of appreciation, will provide the following:

  • Documentaries Category
    • The 1st prize:    $300
    • The 2nd prize:  $200
  • Video Clips Category
    • The 1st prize:    $250
    • The 2nd prize:  $150
  • Scholarly Talks Category
    • The 1st prize (Youth):     $200
    • The 2nd prize (Youth):   $100
    • The 1st prize (Adults):    $200
    • The 2nd prize (Adults):  $100


Please upload your videos by March 24, 2021 (extended) through one of the following services:

  • One Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and WeTransfer.

Make sure to give us full access to download the files. Then send the link through the registration form.


Qualified videos will be posted on our Instagram page and two top videos in each category will be appreciated. The ranking of the videos shall be made on:

1. Evaluation made by viewers (50 percent), based on the number of likes, shares, and comments

2. Evaluation made by the IRIC expert group (50 percent).
The evaluation is made by the following criteria:

a) Innovation and originality

b) Quality of the content

c) Technique

d) Screenplay/content structure (idea, story, and characterization)

e) Attractiveness and ability to transfer the concepts

f) Technical and artistic quality (lighting, filming, editing, sound and visual effects)

g) Universality and transnationality

h) Relevance to the festival topics

General Requirements

  • Each person is requested to submit only one video in each category.
  • The participants should be at least 15 years old for Scholarly Talks.
  • Videos should only be in English (Non-English parts of documentaries or video clips must have English subtitles.)
  • Videos should be horizontal (landscape) and the resolution must be at least 1280 x 720.
  • Acceptable file formats are: .mp4 / .mov – H264 codec, under 2 GB.
  • Using Islamic audio effects in the background is allowed; however, other types of music in not acceptable.
  • The religious and ethical code of practice such as proper dressing should be observed.
  • Using any type of symbols and pictures with a commercial or political purpose is not allowed.
  • The videos should take into consideration and respect the dignity of nations, denominations, and policies of different nationalities.
  • The videos that do not follow the standards from the technical and quality viewpoints will not be taken into consideration and will be removed from the competition.


  • Documentaries
    • Please note the authenticity of the subject, good structure, proper research of the idea, and a specific message that is accompanied by the actual facts of a documentary film.
    • A good start and concluding part are among effective characteristics in producing a valuable short film.
    • Please avoid copying other people’s ideas and patterns, and using repetitive structures.
    • Try to make your production in the day time or use places with lots of lighting.
    • We strongly recommend you to use external microphone in order to have a good quality voice.
  • Scholarly Talks
    • Put your camera/mobile phone on the level with your eyes and on a stable surface or use a tripod to keep the video still.
    • Start recording video at least 5 seconds before your speech and continue it for 5 seconds after finishing your speech.
    • Use natural daylight or powerful lamp lighting from the FRONT.
    • Use quiet surroundings and speak in a clear voice. Even better using a wireless handsfree as a microphone.
    • Do not show moving or distracting things in the background.

Intellectual Property Rights

  • The producer(s) confirms that he/she has followed the intellectual property rights, rules and regulations in his/her production.
  • The producer agrees to the virtual presentation of his/her product, and expresses his/her agreement so that IRIC uses this product in its non-profit applications.
  • The producer of this product is responsible for responding to any claim by personal or legal entities with regard to the intellectual property rights.
