Cultural Interaction and Dialogue through Visiting Synagogue

Achieving the goals of educational projects of IRIC, a group of students and researchers of Islamic Research and Information Center (IRIC) visited Abrishami synagogue in Tehran in May 2017. The attendees included students of the Islam and the West Interaction Course.

The Iranian Jewish community had provided access to the synagogue and allowed close observation of religious and ritual ceremonies of Iranian Jews.

After the ceremony, the Chairman of Iranian Jewish Community, Rabbi Dr. Hammami explained about the fundamental beliefs and doctrines of Judaism. He also spoke about the meaning and background of Jewish rituals and symbols.

At the end of the program the students raised their questions and Dr. Hammami provided answers in accordance with his religious credentials.

The program lasted about 3 hours and created an atmosphere of academic and cultural dialogue.
