CILE Public Lecture Series

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites to watch its last public lecture given by Dr Emad El-Din Shahin, CILE Acting Director, Dr Mohammed Ghaly, Professor of Biomedical Ethics at CILE and Dr Muetaz Al Khatib, Professor of Methodology and Ethics at CILE.

It was held on March 6th, 2018 from 7 to 9 pm in the Auditorium at the College of Islamic Studies building.

In this lecture, the panel of speakers addressed the historical aspects, methodological approaches, main challenges and future perspectives of Islamic Studies. The following questions were discussed:

1. How was “Islamic Studies”, as a distinct scholarly discipline, born and developed later as a (post)graduate specialization at universities inside and outside the Muslim world?

2. What are the key similarities/differences in framing and approaching “Islamic Studies” between various universities worldwide?

3. How should we move forward by taking the best and avoiding the worst of the historical experiences?
