IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellowship

IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellowship

About The Event

Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh

The Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World

Application Deadline: February 25, 2022

Especially for those whose research fits with the Alwaleed Centre’s focus on the contemporary/globalised Muslim world.  IASH are particularly keen to welcome scholars whose work links to their Institute Project on Decoloniality.

Fellows will be expected to work in collaboration with one or more members of existing University academic staff in the Alwaleed Centre, and to take an active part in both IASH interdisciplinary and Alwaleed Centre events. Where possible, visits should take place within the academic year 2022-23 (from 1 August 2022 to 31 July 2023), and ideally within one of our two semesters, to ensure colleagues are available for discussions.

We would particularly welcome applications linked to the themes of the Institute Project on Decoloniality (IPD’24) taking place at IASH from 2021 to 2024. This project invites scholars from around the world to visit Edinburgh and conduct research on the theme of decoloniality, broadly understood.

The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities is housed in a 19th-century courtyard close to the University Library and about 30 scholars are in residence at any time. Fellows are allocated a private office in the Institute with all the usual research facilities. During the course of their stay in Edinburgh, IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellows will be expected to make two seminar presentations on their research – one at IASH and one in the Alwaleed Centre – and to take part in IASH work-in-progress sessions and relevant workshops and seminars in the Alwaleed Centre.
