An educational course on Shia Islam is held on Thursdays at the Department for the Study of Religions at the School of History and Contemporary Studies of Södertörn University in Stockholm, Sweden.
David Thurfjell, associate professor of religious studies, teaches the course focusing on historical, social and ideological aspects of the Shia school of thought.
He said that the educational program aims to provide an opportunity for those interested in Islamic and Shia studies to discuss their viewpoints and exchange ideas.
The first session of the course was held at the university on November 27.
Between 450,000 to 500,000 Muslims live in Sweden, which accounts for around 5 percent of the total Swedish population.
