Most Americans say more scrutiny of Muslims is not warranted

A new Pew Research Center survey gauges Americans’ views on a variety of questions related to Islamic extremism and Muslims.

Among the key findings are that a majority of U.S. adults (61%) say U.S. Muslims should not be subject to additional scrutiny solely because of their religion. In addition, Americans are divided about whether they see Islam as more likely than other religions to encourage violence among its believers. There is a widening partisan divide on this question, with far more Republicans (68%) than Democrats (30%) saying Islam is more likely to encourage violence.
