The 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 14-24 March 2016.
Women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development were the main focus of the 60th session of this Commission.
Islamic Research and Information Center (IRIC), as an NGO with consultative status with ECOSOC, participated in this annual conference. Dr. Mahdi Sadeghi from IRIC attended the conference and some selected side events.
Wage equality, women empowerment, women leadership, women at the helm and elimination of violence against women were among the highlighted topics of this year's conference.
The 60th Commission on the Status of Women concluded on 24th of March 2016, with UN Member States committing to the gender-responsive implementation of Agenda 2030.
A set of agreed conclusions called for enhancing the basis for rapid progress, including stronger laws, policies and institutions, better data and scaled-up financing.
