No Doubt: God, Religion & Politics in the Modern World

No Doubt: God, Religion & Politics in the Modern World

About The Event

Lecturer: Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi

Date: February 10-12, 2017

Venue: Manchester, UK

It’s all fun and interesting to study classical theology, but at the end of the day those historical controversies are not the questions that are being discussed on campuses and social gatherings today. This class aims to tackle some of the most difficult and controversial topics head on, whether the rise of militant atheism, or the evolution issue, the existence of evil, political allegiances, rebellion against dictators, secular feminism, the conflict between citizenship and the support for armed forces pressing forwards with their own agenda regardless, and just so much more.

Scholars will deal with this subject “No Doubt: God, Religion and Politics in the Modern World” in this single-weekend seminar which will delve into the crux of Muslim identity and all those factors that confuse it. Using his immense experience and unique background of marrying academia and theology, both the old and the new, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi will bring understanding and confidence whilst being faithful to the tradition. He is the Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib Institute. He is one of the few people who has combined a traditional Eastern Islamic seminary education with a Western academic training of the study of Islam.

Shaykh Yasir graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah. After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences, and then completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Da‘wah. He then returned to America, and completed a PhD in Religious Studies from Yale University. He has authored several books, published academic articles, and appeared on numerous satellite and TV stations around the globe. His online videos are of the most popular and highly-watched Islamic videos in English. He is a resident Scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center. He is also a professor at Rhodes College, in the Department of Religious Studies.
